Police Challenge Coins & Medalions
"The history of the challenge coin dates back to World War I when a rich lieutenant ordered medallions that displayed his suadron emblem for every member of his squadron. He carried his in a small bag around his neck. Some time later he was shot down and captured behind enemy lines by the Germans. They took all his personal belongings except the coin.
He eventually escaped the Germains but was then captured by the French who thought he was a saboteur and were going to shoot him. He was able to avoid excution by producing the challenge coin. Luckily one of his captors recognized his squadon emblem.
As a result it became tradition for members of his squadon to carry their coins at all times. To ensure this happened squadnon members issued challenges to other members to produce their coin on demand. If the person being challenged could not produce their coin they were required to buy the challenger a drink. If they did produce the coin then the challenger would have to buy the drink.
This is a great tradition which has lived on in numerous professions including law enforcement. CopSeek.com is pleased to contribute to the tradition by offering the highest quality law enforcement related challege coins."
