COMMON-LAW ARRESTED IN 2005 SURREY MURDER

Surrey: On Saturday July 21, 2007 a thirty-seven- year-old Surrey man was arrested after charges were approved and an arrest warrant was issued in connection to the 2005 murder of Lisa CUBIN a thirty-five- year-old Surrey mother.
Common-Law Arrested in 2005 Surrey Murder
On Saturday July 21, 2007 investigators of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team arrested thirty-seven year-old Bradley John BENHAM of Surrey for the murder of his common-law wife Lisa CUBIN. BENHAM will be appearing in Surrey Provincial Court on Monday July 23, 2007 to face the charge of second degree murder.
Background:
On November 12, 2005 at 09:15 AM, the Surrey RCMP responded to a 911 call describing a sudden death at 18319 - 20 Avenue, Surrey. Once at scene investigators concluded that there were suspicious circumstance surrounding the woman’s death. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was brought in to investigate the incident. Once an autopsy had been completed it was learned that the woman’s death was a homicide. Investigators arrested BENHAM in connection to the murder, however, charges were not approved at the time and BENHAM was released into the community.
Over the course of the last twenty-one months the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team moved forward with their investigation and continued obtaining additional evidence and information in their quest to solve this murder. Recently after a review of the file, Crown Counsel determined that the investigation meets the standard for charge approval and laid a charge of second degree murder. A warrant was issued, and Bradley John BENHAM was arrested without incident during the morning of July 21, 2007. BENHAM remains in custody.
