ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. _ Officials say a bailiff shot and killed a gunman who opened fire in the lobby of a courthouse in St. Petersburg, Florida. They say another bailiff was shot in the shoulder during the gunfight. Police say the man opened fire after approaching a security checkpoint near the entrance of the downtown courthouse. Authorities have closed the courthouse. The court clerk, Ken Burke, says it's lucky no one else was hurt. He says a member of his staff had emerged from an elevator just as the shooting began. © 2008 The Canadian Press |
