NEW YORK _ Officials in New York say Rev. Al Sharpton has been arrested at the base of the Brooklyn Bridge in a protest over the acquittal of three police officers involved in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man.

Police say Sharpton, two survivors of the shooting and the slain man's fiancee were arrested.

The protest was one of a series of demonstrations calling for a federal investigation into the November 2006 shooting in which 50 shots were fired.

Sharpton had called for acts of civil disobedience across the city.

Several other demonstrators have been arrested as they stopped traffic at bridges and tunnels.

As police keep their distance, organizers are giving protesters instructions on how to behave when arrested.
