SHELBURNE, N.S. _ A Nova Scotia man has been sentenced to 70 days in jail for assaulting a police officer.

Matthew James Jackson, of Shelburne, N.S., was also fined $350 for being intoxicated in public and must serve a year of probation upon his release.

The 20-year-old was sentenced today in a Shelburne court after pleading guilty to the offences last month.

Six other charges were suspended.

The string of charges against Jackson followed four incidents in the Shelburne area last year. (CKBW) © 2007 The Canadian Press
